What does this battery recycling calculator do?

BatteryReclaim Lab helps researchers account for lithium through a recycling process. Its feed scope is industrial lithium iron phosphate (LFP) black mass. You supply the measurements; the tool calculates supported recovery, balances and economic results. A strong extraction percentage alone cannot answer whether lithium reaches an isolated product or whether the entered costs meet your requirement.

Start with lithium recovery. Add a stream inventory to examine where lithium goes. Add water, energy and cost measurements when those questions matter to your study. Each result states its conditions, and a missing value stays missing.

Choose the result you need

Start small; add evidence for deeper questions.
QuestionData to prepareRead next
How much lithium reaches the product?Lithium in the feed and isolated product, with the same batch or campaign basis.Lithium recovery calculation
Where does lithium go?Measured outputs, stocks, additions and transfers, without counting a stream twice.LFP process accounting
What drives water and energy use?Water flows and stocks; metered utility use or explicitly stated thermal estimates for the selected result.Water and energy inputs
Do the costs meet my requirement?Cost coverage, accepted product quantity, supported prices and a stated economic target.Cost and break-even analysis

How to start your first calculation

  1. Setup: name your study, choose the measured route and select a result goal.
  2. Measurements: enter values, units, sources and supported bounds. The lab separates required, conditional and optional fields.
  3. Checks: state an economic requirement if you are analysing costs, and inspect missing or contradictory inputs.
  4. Results: read the answer with its range and conditions. Download the current report or exact data when you need to share it.

For a first look, open Home and choose Try a simple example, then Calculate recovery. This loads invented demonstration data; it is not an experiment. The full interface guide explains each step.

When is the tool appropriate?

Use it for research accounting with an industrial LFP black-mass dataset. Named sulfuric acid/hydrogen peroxide and oxalic acid/hydrogen peroxide routes, plus a researcher-described measured route, identify the process being accounted for. Choosing a route does not predict its extraction, downstream yield or purity.

The tool does not calculate battery capacity, charging, range or second-life performance. It does not model all battery chemistries or certify a commercial recycling plant. If your feed, product or process lies outside the supported scope, the answer needs a different model.

Reproducible research, not a favourable preset

The lab does not fill missing prices, exchange rates or measurements with hidden defaults. A report keeps input sources, methods, conditions and results together. An unavailable result means the chosen calculation lacks valid support; it does not mean a zero result.

Read the data and help page before saving or sharing a study. Calculations run in your browser, and saved drafts remain local to that browser. Check the current Methods and Benchmarks views for the calculation definitions and bounded paper checks.
